Labor Day Weekend SURPRISE!!

My Dad's 60th birthday was on Monday and both my sisters were going to be home for Labor Day weekend.  I really wanted to celebrate my Dad's birthday and get in a lake weekend in this summer but we weren't sure about the timing.  My doctor does not like flying after 28 weeks so we would have to make the 14+ hour drive to MN, and at 35 weeks we weren't sure that I would be able to stand being in the car that long.  We made no commitments to anyone about us coming back for the weekend but secretly we were still tentatively planning on going back.  We talked it over with my Dr the last two appointments and since everything looked good, they were ok with it as long as I got out to walk every 2 hours (to avoid blood clots) and stayed hydrated. So on Thursday morning at 4:00am Jason, Gibson, and I were on our way to the Midwest to surprise my family for the weekend!

Our Awesome road tripper!

My cousin had a baby boy, Sawyer, in April who we had not met yet and we also had not seen Nana & Papa since January, so we stopped in Cedar Rapids Thursday night (12 hours).  We had coordinated with Carrie & Josh so our coming was not a surprise to them.  It was so much fun to finally met Sawyer and get some great advice & hand-me-downs!  It was way to short of a visit but can't wait for Baby B and Sawyer to meet & play together in January!

Cute little Sawyer!

We surprised Nana & Papa when we called them Thursday night and asked if they were free for breakfast on Friday morning.  Again, the visit was short but it was great to be able to see them and catch up.  They are very excited for their second great-grandchild.

After breakfast on Friday we hit the road again and headed to the cabin (6.5 hours) to surprise my family.  We got to the cabin about 4:30pm but everyone was out on the boat so we just hung out and relaxed outside until they came back.  When we saw them heading back to the dock, we hid and jumped out once they had the boat docked.  They were SOO surprised and super excited!  Dad was SO happy to have everyone in town for the weekend!!  We went out on a boat ride (Gibson's first) and then came back to the cabin for dinner.

Love the view! This is what I miss in Colorado!
The kids!

Saturday the weather was Great!  We spent most of the day on the boat cruising and swimming/floating.  Gibson went swimming for the first time where he couldn't touch.  He Loved it!  He couldn't get enough.  It was a perfect lake day and so great to have everyone together!  Last time it will just be the 6 of us!

Boating Puppy!

We have the set up...floating cooler, tubes, and a huge floating platform!
No complains here!

Gibson loved the platform too!

Life is good!

My boys!

On Saturday evening Greg, Georgine, and Grandpa came over for a birthday dinner.  We surprised them as well that we were in town.  And Grandpa was beyond excited that we were in town.  He cannot wait to become a Great-Grandpa!  It was a great evening!

Birthday Boy & his Dad

Sunday the weather was cold and cloudy.  Big difference from Saturday! We hung out and relaxed, read books, and took naps. It would have been nice if the weather was better but it was nice to have a lazy do nothing day too.  Later in the afternoon it started to warm up a bit so we played some ladder ball.  And by early evening it was still chilly but the wind had died down and clouds were gone, so we went on a nice boat ride around the lake - bundled up in jeans & sweatshirts. After the boat ride we had a great family birthday dinner and for dessert Dairy Queen ice cream cake! We surprised Dad with a ice cream cake b/c it wouldn't be right to have his birthday at the lake without one...its tradition after all!  After ice cream cake we had a bonfire before heading to bed.

Hot Tub Fun!

Didn't want to miss out on the fun...only legs in for me though

HAPPY 60th  BIRTHDAY DAD!!

Unfortunately, early Monday morning we packed up the car and started the journey back to Denver (15 hours).  We made a quick stop to visit Emily and Jeff and meet baby Cooper.  He just turned 2 months!  He is such a little peanut and I love all of his hair! Can't believe we are going to have a little peanut of our own in a month! Baby B is going to have lots of little playmates!

Cooper and all his hair!

Jason was amazing doing all the driving!  And I did much better in the car than I thought I was going to do, up until the last 2 hours on Monday.  I was Done with the car at that point. Yes, I'll admit, we are crazy for deciding to go on a cross county car trip over 5 days at 35 weeks pregnant. And, yes the car got long at the end, but it was SO worth it!  It was an amazing weekend!  Though all of the visits were too short, we were able to pack in quite a bit into the short trip and it was SO fun to see everyone. It really meant a lot to my Dad to have everyone home for his birthday and that is what matters!  The surprise was a success and the weekend was perfect!
